Mackenzie the Doula

Girl Talk
Hi! I'm Mackenzie! I am a mother of three children a daughter who is 10, a son who is 7, and another son who is 3 years old. I graduated from Misericordia University with a Bachelors degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I taught for two years and then I became a stay at home mom. Prior to my first birth I knew I wanted a natural, non medicated birth. Plans changed when we found out my daughter was breech. Although a csection was needed I never felt like I had a say or was even heard in the process. After my daughter was born I began to hear more and more about doulas and how csections could be done in a way that encourages mother baby bonding and a positive birth experience. I spent a lot of time grieving my experience and I knew my next birth I would hire a doula. When I became pregnant 2 years later with my son I hired a doula and with her support and confidence I advocated for my own VBAC (Vaginal Birth AFter Cesarean). I felt like because I had the doula in my corner, doctors heard me more and I felt in control of my experience. My sons birth was not easy and smooth but I was able to have a positive experience in which my husband and I grew closer and I look back on with fond memories. In total I had 1 csection and 2 VBACs. I feel every woman no matter the way in which the baby is brought into this world should have the opportunity to a positive birth experience in which she has a say. I am an advocate for "Her birth, her way"
